Why is self-appreciation important for women?

One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to appreciate yourself. This doesn't mean self-flattery or being egotistical. It simply means taking the time to recognize your strengths, accomplishments, and unique qualities. This is an important step in putting yourself first. It can be hard to do at first, but with a little encouragement and patience, you can start to see improvements in your self-esteem.

By putting yourself first, you help to set a positive example for other women in your life.

When they see you taking care of your wellbeing and valuing your own-self, they are more likely to do the same. Additionally, when you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to be happy and optimistic. This can have a huge impact on your relationships and overall quality of life.

There are a lot of things you can do to improve your self-esteem and wellbeing. One of the simplest things is to start acknowledging and appreciating your accomplishments and paying attention to the things you're doing well. This doesn't have to be a huge project or anything elaborate - just a few kind words can go a long way.

When it comes to self-appreciation, it’s important for women to start anywhere they can. No matter what stage in life you are at, there are things you can do to better appreciate yourself. Here are a few tips to get started:

1. Start by focusing on the good things about yourself.

Look for the things that make you happy and magnify them. For example, if you’re proud of your intellect, rejoice in that fact every day. Don’t forget to compliment yourself on these qualities often, too. If you’re creative, think about ways that you can express yourself that will be a personal release from the daily expectations others put on you. If you like to be organised, maybe decluttering your space or making plans for the next day might help.

2. Don’t compare yourself to others.
It’s impossible to be truly happy if you’re constantly comparing yourself to others. Remember, each person is unique, and there’s no one right way to be. Social media always portrays someone’s best life, people rarely post about their struggles. That doesn’t mean they aren’t also suffering self-doubt or feeling the pressure of everyday expectations.

3. Give yourself credit for your accomplishments.
Recognize the hard work and effort that went into achieving them. Take a minute to celebrate each milestone along the way and plan to move forward. Accomplishments aren't just about work. They are about happiness, health and freedom to be yourself, whatever that may mean to you.

4. Set reasonable goals for yourself.
Don’t push yourself to do things that are beyond your current capabilities. Recognise your limitations. Set small, realistic goals that you can easily achieve. Be kind to yourself and recognise that everyone, including you, needs rest.

5. Celebrate yourself!
